Purdue University is shutting down Netflix in lecture halls

Purdue University has decided it will be blocking popular streaming websites in the school’s largest lecture halls.

Reason being? They want students to have more reliable connections to academic sites instead.

Streaming services that will be affected by this block are Netflix, Steam, Hulu, Apple, and iTunes.

While the services are not yet blocked in the classrooms, it may be considered down the line.

As it stands, the pilot program will only be blocking these services for the first 10 weeks of the fall semester to see how it goes.

Is it too easy to get distracted on a laptop now in class? Should teachers ban laptops in the classroom? Can a student multitask and still get what they need from a lecture?
