(CHICAGO)  On the less-serious side, Bill Cameron remembers how 9-11 produced one of Mayor Daley’s greatest hits!

Just a few weeks after 9-11-2001, Mayor Daley was asked how Chicagoans should evacuate downtown in the event of a terrorist attack, and it produced some unintended hilarity.

“One thing you know,” the mayor stated, “Any emergency, ya get away from it! That is common sense! Ya don’t rush up to a fire. You don’t rush up to an accident to watch.  You keep walking! You keep going. I mean that is the natural thing. Keep walking! I mean, you can’t sent them to the L! Ya can’t put ’em underground. They keep walking down the street! I, I, I, ya know!”

As you can imagine, this produced more serious study of evacuation in Chicago in the event of a terrorist attack.
