State yanks Lincoln Towing license

(CHICAGO) — The Illinois Commerce Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to make Lincoln Towing walk the plank as they revoked the company’s state license, effective immediately.

Long criticized in the 60’s and 70’s by columnist Mike Royko and later mocked by Steve Goodmans 1972 song “Lincoln Park Pirates,” ICC staff alleges the company committed 831 violations of Illinois’ towing law between July 2015 and March 2016.

Lincoln had argued that the alleged violations were “inconsistencies” in records held by the company and the commission.

The decision comes after an administrative law judge ruled in July that the company should keep its license.

Lincoln can sue to try and continue operations as the case plays out in court.
