(ROUND LAKE HEIGHTS, Ill.) — Three children had to be hospitalized this morning after they were injured after a lightning strike in north suburban Round Lake Heights.

It happened near a bus stop at Lotus and Ottawa drives. Fire officials say a group of middle school students were taking cover under a tree when lightning struck nearby.

Round Lake firefighters arrived to find three children in a semi-conscious state on the ground. All three were transported to Condell Hospital. One of the three had earlier been listed as in serious condition but has since been upgraded.
