Will Van Dyke testify? McCarthy thinks he should.

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO)  At the Jason Van Dyke trial, the defense has begun calling witnesses and the big question is whether Van Dyke will take the stand in his own defense.

Defense attorneys usually tell their clients it’s a bad idea to take the stand because the prosecution gets to grill them.

But one who thinks Van Dyke should take the stand is the police superintendent at the time of the 16 shots, Garry McCarthy, “The officer has to articulate that he was in fear of his life, why he was in fear of his life and then the facts will play out from there. Whether or not he was or wasn’t is gonna be determined by a jury and I dunno who can articulate that except for him.“

Cameron: “And if he doesn’t take the stand, he’s hurting his case?”

McCarthy: “I mean, that’s what I believe.”

McCarthy says this as he runs for mayor.
