Gas prices have continued to rise nationwide, closing in on their highest point in four years.

On Thursday, the average price for a gallon of unleaded was $2.91, up seven cents from last month and approaching the highest point since 2014, when it topped $2.98 a gallon.

Gas prices could factor into next month’s midterm elections – voters in Calfornia, for example, are voting on whether to repeal a gas tax that raises money for road and bridge repair. Other states may also take a closer look at gas taxes.
