As recreational cannabis usage become legal in Canada on Wednesday, we now know that Canadian campers will be able to use marijuana in their national parks.

This week, Parks Canada confirmed that marijuana could be used at their campsites.

A spokesperson said in an email, “While Parks Canada campgrounds are public areas, the agency treats individual campsites as temporary domiciles for our visitors. For this reason, at Parks Canada campgrounds, consumption of cannabis will be permitted in campsites.”

In British Colombia, Alberta, Quebec, and Ontario, campers will be able to smoke cannabis while hiking as long as the trail is outside of the campground. Marijuana usage is not permitted in common areas.
