Rahm’s final budget: Kicking the can on city pensions issue

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO)  At City Hall this morning, Mayor Emanuel will be unveiling his final City Budget proposal.

No new taxes in this one. Rahm the Lame Duck mayor is leaving the next mayor to figure out how to come up with several hundred million more dollars to pay for future city pensions. He’s kicking that can down the road.

That’s very unlike what he said about city finances when he became mayor in 2011, “We can’t kick the can down the road because we’ve run out of road.”

What the mayor is doing is adding many more millions to programs to combat street violence by funding more alternatives to gangs, guns and drugs.
