The end of Hazing? Pennsylvania to make hazing a felony

The days of fraternities hazing their pledges could be done in Pennsylvania… unless you want to serve some hard time.

Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf is about to sign legislation into law that will turn hazing into a felony that is punishable by up to seven years behind bars.

The “Timothy Piazza Anti-Hazing Law” was passed unanimously in the state legislature. It is named after a Penn State freshman who died during hazing activities at the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house in February 2017.

Legislators and law enforcement are hoping the new law acts as a deterrence for students who consider hazing acceptable.
