Saudi Gov’t Says Khashoggi Was Killed In ‘Fistfight’

On Friday, the Saudi government admitted that missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. But they say it happened during a ‘fistfight’.

The official story from the Saudi Press Agency is that “discussions” with Khashoggi “devolved into a fistfight, leading to his death”. Turkish officials say they have audio and video evidence that Khashoggi was tortured and killed by a ‘Saudi death squad’ who dismembered his body.

So far 18 Saudis have been arrested and two top aides to Saudi crown prince Mohammad Bin Salman have been fired sin connection with Khashoggi’s death. Prince Salman has promised to restructure the nation’s intelligence agency.

The White House offered condolences to Khashoggi’s family and said it will “continue to follow the international investigations”.
