(WOODSTOCK, Ill.) — There appears to be a significant undervote in McHenry County with regards to statewide races.
Of McHenry county votes cast in Tuesday’s midterm election the unofficial election results show about 21 percent of voters did not pick candidates in the governor’s race and a similar gap exists in state races for attorney general, secretary of state and comptroller.
The McHenry county clerk says the county’s election reporting software may be the culprit and they are looking into is.
State Rep. David McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills) has contacted the Illinois State Board of Elections to look into the undervote saying it raises a red flag.
Of the ballots cast, roughly 79 percent included a pick for either Gov. Bruce Rauner or challenger J.B. Pritzker.
The Northwest Herald reports that’s 20 points lower than the 99 percent of Will County ballots, 98.6 percent In Kane and Lake counties and 98.3 percent in Cook County.
The clerk though says that sometimes people undervote on purpose.
