An Arkansas woman has been accused of embezzling more than $80,000 from a children’s sports organization.
Misty Rochelle Wilson, 40, is free on bail pending a court appearance in Washington County Circuit Court.
GREENLAND (KFSM) – A Washington County woman is accused of embezzling more than $80,000 intended to support a youth sports league in Greenland.
Misty Rochelle Wilson was arrested Oct. 26 in connection with the theft of property, a Class B felony. Authorities say the 40-year-old woman stole the money between October 2012 and October 2017 from two accounts, which had been set up to fund the Greenland Pee Wee Sports Club.
The money was discovered missing after Wilson left the organization in July 2017 to accept a position with the City of Farmington. An investigation revealed the money, which was taken via cash withdrawals and forged checks, had been spent at a number of retail stores in the area.
If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $15,000.
Should local organizations allow one person access to their money? Should penalties be harsher for crimes against children? What affect do you think something like this might have on a child?
In Arkansas, Class B felonies are punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $15,000.
