FDA Goes After Flavored Vapes, Menthol Cigarettes

The FDA just announced a plan to ban menthol cigarettes, and restrict the sale of flavored e-cigarettes.

The plan is aimed at reducing tobacco use by young people, who are using vapes in record numbers. It would ban the sale of sweet-flavored e-cigarettes in gas stations and convenience stores, and add age restrictions for online sales.

Health Secretary Alex Azar says the candy-like flavors like mango or strawberry are “a major reason” young people are drawn to vaping.

This week, Juul Labs, the largest e-cigarette manufacturer, announced it would stop selling its flavored e-liquids.
