Preckwinkle dogged by how she handled firing of accused chief of staff

(CHICAGO) In the campaign for mayor, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle continues to be dogged by her handling of the firing of her chief of staff over an allegation of sexual assault.

Just when the #MeToo firing of her chief of staff John Keller seemed to be fading, Preckwinkle got asked why she covered up the incident up in March only to act on it in September, “I fire people on the basis of evidence, corroborated evidence. I’ve disciplined and fired people on the basis of evidence. I’ve never fired or disciplined people on the basis of rumor. When I had evidence, corroboration of his bad behavior, I fired him. (pause) I deeply regret (loud exhale) his behavior and, ah, (pause). As I said I’m appalled by it. Thank you! (and leaves presser).”

So Preckwinkle is defending herself, but by doing so keeps the story going in the campaign for mayor.
