(CHICAGO) Sen. Dick Durbin on Friday revealed why President Trump is backing his criminal justice reform legislation.

Durbin and Trump are an odd couple coming together on sentencing reform, and here’s why.

“One of the driving forces behind this has been the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner,” said Durbin, “Jared Kushner’s father spent time in prison. It had a profound impact on Jared and his family. From the very first time I met him, he talked about prison reform. He wants to get this done desparately.”

But the clock is ticking on the current session with only three weeks left.  it’s up to Senate Majority Leader McConnell to call the bill.
