Doctors want children to get flu shots after study finds 34% won’t get them

Pediatricians are urging parents to get their kids a flu shot after a recent study showed that a third of them won’t get one.

Nearly 180 children died last year from the flu according to the CDC and infection preventionist Beth Linegang says flu shots can help make that number decrease.

“About 50% of those kids were perfectly healthy, normal kids who didn’t have any other health issues,” Linegang said. “We know that getting the flu shot decreases death in children, healthy children, by about 65 percent.”

The study showed that one of the major reasons parents don’t get their children vaccinated is because they don’t have time, but that is changing with more clinics offering walk-in options for flu shots.
