White says background checks need to be improved to screen out the mentally ill

(CHICAGO) Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is offering special condolences to the family of Officer Jimenez and he’s talking about gun control.

Jesse White began a news conference on an unrelated matter with a moment of silence because the wife and sister of Officer Jimenez work in the Secretary of State’s office.

The shooter reportedly had a concealed carry permit which requires a FOID card which you can’t get without a background check.

White said background checks need to be improved to screen out the mentally ill and those prone to domestic violence. And then he said this.

“For example, the lady, the doctor who was shot, I just think that maybe she should have gone to the authorities in order to get an order of protection or let someone know that her life was being jeopardized.”
