A Virginia high school teacher has been fired for refusing to refer to a trans male student as “he”.

According to school officials, Peter Vlaming, a French teacher at West Point High, said he would not use male pronouns for the student, citing his Christian faith.

The superintendent says Vlaming’s refusal created a “hostile learning environment” and that the student’s parents “felt disrespected”. Vlaming has not yet decided if he’ll appeal the decision.
