Geneva teacher strike over

(GENEVA, IL)  School is back in session today for those in Geneva School District 304.  Extracurricular activities also resume.

Teachers have approved a new five year contract that was reached early Monday morning after a 12-hour negotiation session with a federal mediator. Salary proposals were a major dispute in negotiations and the previous contract had expired in August.

Kevin Gannon…Geneva Education Association President tells ABC7, “It’s not everything that we were asking for but a good negotiated deal typically doesn’t give you everything that you wanted and, so, the board got some of they wanted, we got some of what we wanted and I think it’s a bargain that will be good for our community, certainly for our students, and our schools.”

Almost 6-thousand students were out of school, for five days, due to the strike.
