Icon of Chicago African-America politics turns 100

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO)  At City Hall, one of the icons of Chicago’s African-American politics – Dr. Timuel Black – is 100 years olD.

Timuel Black has seen it all in the modern era of Chicago’s infamous politics and so I asked him if he thinks it’s getting any better.

“The politics have not gotten any better, but the sharing has. Before it was concentrated primarily in Irish-Catholic hands supported by a smaller Jewish population. Very much middle-class oriented. Now that same behavior is shared across racial, ethnic and gender lines. ”

Cameron: “Do we have a long way to go to make Chicago politics honest?”

Black:” We have some work to do which is why older people like me keep going to share the past and look at the present and dream and fight for the future.”

Timuel Black, movin’ a little slower, but still on his game at 100.
