Martha McSally Appointed To John McCain’s Senate Seat

Arizona Rep. Martha McSally narrowly lost her Senate race to Democrat Kyrsten Sinema. But now McSally is headed to the Senate anyway – at least until 2020.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey is appointing McSally to fill the Senate seat that belonged to the late John McCain. She’ll take over for Jon Kyl, who was appointed by Ducey after McCain’s death in August and is resigning at the end of the year.

McSally, a former Air Force colonel who served as the first-ever female combat pilot, will hold the seat until 2020, when a special election is held for the final two years of McCain’s term.
