Kaegi moving fast on reformed re-assessments

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO) The new reform Cook County Assessor is telling WLS he’ll be announcing the first of the much-fairer property tax re-assessments very soon.

Fritz Kaegi isn’t wasting anytime.

He’s re-assessing the northern suburbs first and results from his new formula will begin rolling out in only two weeks. And here’s how he says he’s taking politics and favoritism out of the system.

“Get good comparables, take good information about the attributes of peoples’ homes and call it fairly. Don’t let the process get distorted.”

Cameron: “What a concept.”

Kaegi: “Right! There we go! (laughs)”

This doesn’t necessarily mean property tax bill will go down, but your share of the burden will be more fair.
