(WAUKEGAN, Ill.) — A former Illinois state representative has been indicted for allegedly sharing nude pictures of his ex-girlfriend on line.

A Lake County grand jury has returned a 12 count indictment of non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images against former State Rep. Nick Sauer.

Lake County State’s Attorney, Michael Nerheim announced today that in late July of last year, he was contacted by the Illinois Legislative Inspector General Julie Porter regarding the possible criminal activities of Sauer. Nerheim says his office’s Special Investigations Division and Cyber Division immediately began an investigation. This morning, a Lake County Grand Jury issued a twelve count Indictment for Sauer for the offense of non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images involving two separate victims. Under the “revenge porn” law, the charges are Class 4 felonies. The second victim hasn’t been identified.

Sauer, a Republican from Lake Barrington in the northwest suburbs, resigned in August after his ex-girlfriend notified authorities about a fake Instagram account set up in her name that featured sexually explicit photos.

Nerheim says his office has been in communication with Sauer’s attorney and expect him to surrender by Thursday morning.
