O’Hare expansion proposals revealed

(CHICAGO) The City of Chicago has chosen five architectural firms as finalists for the city’s $8.5 billion project to expand terminals at O’Hare airport.

The terminal expansion is set to open in 2028 and is expected to increase the airport’s overall square footage from 5.5 million to 8.9 million square feet.  Some of the top architects in the world are competing for the right to design what would be the largest and most expensive remodeling of terminals in the 74-year history of O’Hare airport.

The expansion will include two new passenger concourses, and will be paid for entirely by airline ticket fees.

It is a top priority for Mayor Rahm Emanuel before he leaves office in May.
