Shutdown Lawsuit Delayed because of Shutdown

A lawsuit that seeks damages in addition to back pay for workers forced to work during the partial government shutdown has been delayed – because of the shutdown.

With Justice Department attorneys citing their inability to work, U.S. Federal Court of Claims Judge Patricia E. Campbell-Smith halted proceedings.

“The court appreciates the ironic circumstance that the very subject of this case also triggers the parties’ inability to proceed with the litigation,” the Judge wrote.

In positive news for furloughed and working federal employees, the White House says a bill requiring back and lost pay was signed this morning. However, that money won’t seen until the Government reopens.
