Supreme Court Allows Military Transgender Ban To Proceed

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court allowed a White House-ordered military transgender ban to proceed while its legality is challenged in court.

The ban was first announced in 2017 but had been blocked by federal judges. But the Supreme Court declined to make a ruling on the ban itself, until it plays out in the lower courts.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticized the decision, tweeting that the ban was meant to “humiliate brave men & women seeking to serve their country”. A Pentagon spokesperson said “As always, we treat all transgender persons with respect and dignity”.
