Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell believes that a Democratic bill that would make Election Day a federal holiday is a “power grab”.

The H.R. 1 bill, if law, would allow federal workers to have the day off and would encourage private employers to allow their employees the time off.

McConnell has spoken against the bill saying “Just what America needs. A bunch of government workers to be paid to go out and work for our colleagues on the other side and their campaigns.”

His statement was criticized across social media. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii tweeted “Voting is a power grab…by citizens. Voting should be easy.”
