O’Rourke Says He Would Tear Down Wall on El Paso Border If Possible

Potential 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke said in an interview that he would take down the border wall at El Paso if he could.

“Here’s what we know: after the Secure Fence Act, we have built 600 miles of wall and fencing on a 2,000 mile border,” O’Rourke said. “What that has done is not in any demonstrable way made us safer.”

O’Rourke says El Paso is one of the safest cities in the U.S., but that is not the result of a wall on the southern border.

O’Rourke commented on the immigrants who have lost their lives from having to travel longer distances because of the wall saying, “They’re dead, over the last 10 years, as we have walled off their opportunity to legally petition for asylum to cross in urban centers, like El Paso.”
