The Bernie Sanders campaign raised more than $6 million in the first 24 hours after the Vermont Senator announced his 2020 campaign earlier this week. But Sanders’ real fundraising edge comes from his embrace of the ‘Netflix model’.

The ‘Netflix model’ involves supporters signing up to make a small automatic donation each month, kind of like a Netflix subscription. It’s a technique that’s become increasingly popular in the political world.

Sanders is currently set to get about $600K a month from those monthly donations. Fundraising service ActBlue says recurring donations account for about 20% of the money raised by Democrats last year.
