Big fines coming for ‘outlaw’ street ads

At City Hall, Bill Cameron says the aldermen are in the process of raising fines on any business or service that slap their outlaw advertising on anything on a public street.

Downtown alderman Brendan Reilly says ugly commercial ads slapped on street signs, poles and even trees are getting out of hand.
“It’s the cheapest form of marketing and when you don’t have to pay to restore the city infrastructure, what a great deal. But the taxpayers do ultimately have to pay for that and so hopefully this ordinance will help discourage the practice.”

And so next Wednesday the City Council will approve fines on violators ranging from 200 to $1,000 per ad.
