Preckwinkle and Lightfoot peaceful at Trib debate

(CHICAGO)  Lori Lightfoot and Toni Preckwinkle faced off peacefully at the Tribune Editorial Board this morning and talked taxes.

Hundred of millions of new dollars have to be found by the next mayor for pensions and operations. Lightfoot was candid about it.

“We’re gonna have to have a candid conversation about revenue. No two ways about it. It means we’re gonna have to find what I hope are progressive sources of revenue to be able to meet the challenges that we have.”

Preckwinkle avoided her “Toni the Taxer” label by talking up her record of cutting at the county.

“I brought in each of the separately-elected public officials and said you have to cut your budget 15% and in one of the most difficult decisions I ever had to make, we laid off 1500 people.”

Lightfoot smiled a lot while Preckwinkle was talking, leaving the impression she’s more confident by the day that she’ll win this election.
