Massive Explosion at 7-11 Rocks Philadelphia Neighborhood

In a blast that rocked the neighborhood and sent flaming debris raining down on the surrounding area, a gas pump exploded Tuesday at a Pennsylvania 7-11.

Surprisingly, there were no injuries reported in the incident, which occurred just after 11 a.m. in the Feltonville section of Philadelphia. Frightened residents reported hearing the deafening explosion from miles away.

Meko Noel, who was inside the 7-11 when the blast occurred, looked outside just in time to see a manhole cover come crashing down on her car. “The manhole probably flew up in the sky when the explosion happened and then landed on the back of my car and rolled off,” she says. “The flames were maybe 20 feet in the air. It was really high and it was really scary and we didn’t know what to expect.”

Investigators say workers had been repairing the gas pumps, but they’re still trying to determine what triggered the explosion.
