Giving the middle finger to a police officer might not be the smartest thing to do, but it’s protected by the constitution.
A federal appeals court ruled that a woman’s constitutional rights were violated when she was given a ticket by an officer in suburban Detroit after she flipped the cop off.
Officer Matthew Minard pulled over Debra Cruise-Gulyas in 2017 for a lesser offense. After she flipped him off, Minard pulled her over again and gave her a bigger ticket.
The court said Minard “should have known better.” Cruise-Gulyas filed a lawsuit saying her free speech rights were violated.
