Is Your Favorite Vegetable on The “Dirty Dozen” List?

Kale has now joined the list of the top twelve vegetables and fruits to be most contaminated with pesticide residues, according to the Environmental Working Group. Kale comes in at number three on the list. Strawberries top the list at number one, followed by spinach.

Rounding out the “dirty dozen” are nectarines, apples, grapes, peaches, cherries, pears, tomatoes, celery, potatoes and hot peppers.

The EWG tests over 47 fruits and veggies annually to see which have the most pesticide residues on them. The produce with the least amount of pesticide residues? Avocados.

The EWG recommends buying and eating organic if you want to avoid consuming pesticide residues. If that doesn’t fit your budget, the group says that eating fruits and vegetables is always better than eating none at all.
