Japan has unveiled its torch design for the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo.

The rose gold beacon resembles the country’s national flower, the cherry blossom, known as sakura in Japanese.

Designed by Tokujin Yoshioka, the torch was created using cutting-edge technology and pays tribute to the sacrifice and resilience of the Japanese people following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

The 2020 Olympic Torch Relay begins March 26 in Fukushima.
