Chicago Suburb Can’t Ban “Assault Rifles”

While the New Zealand government moved quickly to ban “assault rifles,” a Judge on the other side of the globe has ruled that a Chicago suburb cannot do the same.

The Chicago Tribune reports Lake County Judge Luis Berrones issued a permanent injunction Friday against the village of Deerfield which had enacted an ordinance in April 2018.

The ruling prevents Deerfield from enforcing a ban on AR-15 style rifles and imposing fines of up to $1,000 per day.

Deerfield officials are reviewing the ruling. They could appeal.
