At City Hall, Bill Cameron says Mayor Emanuel is lashing out at the criminal justice system that allowed the suspect in the murder of police officer John Rivera back on the street.

Speaking at his last police graduation ceremony at Navy Pier, Rahm blasted the courts.

“What was that criminal doing out on the streets of the City of Chicago? You invade a home, take a gun to a person’s head. You get a year and you don’t even serve a year? And you’re back on the streets of the City of Chicago and you take somebody’s life. Now it may not  be politically-correct, but the hard work our officers do, the hard work our community leaders do, to have any back on the streets of the City of Chicago undermines all that work and that is not right. That is wrong.”The mayor said sentences must be stiffer.
