(SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) — Democratic members of the Illinois State Senate are weighing in on whether or not a presidential candidate should be required to disclose their tax returns.
A bill passed in the State Senate and sponsored by Chicago Democrat Tony Munoz would require presidential candidates to release their income tax returns if they want to appear on the ballot in Illinois.
“If you want to run for vice president, president of the United States, hey, what’s wrong with providing your tax returns for the past five years? If you’ve got nothing to hide, you shouldn’t worry about anything. That’s how I see it,” Munoz said.
Critics question if the move is even constitutional and say it’s a blatant attack on President Trump. The bill now heads to the State House for consideration.
