Measles Epidemic Kills 1,200 In Madagascar

The U.S. has been dealing with multiple outbreaks of measles this year, but it’s even worse in Madascar, where a measles epidemic has killed over 1,200 people so far.

The African island nation has reported more than 115,000 measles cases and 1,200 fatalities over the last seven months.

Experts say vaccination rates in Madagascar are only about 58% due to widespread poverty, lack of health care, and children who are more susceptible to the disease due to malnourishment.

About 450 children die from measles every day worldwide.
