Report: Amazon Flooded with Fake Reviews

You may want to reconsider buying something on Amazon based on its reviews alone because consumer advocate group Which? reports that Amazon is flooded with thousands of fake five-star reviews.

For example, when Which? searched for headphones, the entire first page was filled with unknown brands. There were over 12,000 reviews from the front page and 87% of those ratings were unverified – meaning that it couldn’t be proven that the reviewer had actually bought the headphones.

Unknown brands seem to be abusing the ratings system so they can boost their visibility during searches. Amazon says it’s investing in ways to secure and protect its ratings system.
