Chicago’s Population Drops for 4th Straight Year

The country’s third most populated city could be in danger of losing its ranking. New data from the U.S. Census Bureau indicates Chicago’s population has fallen for a fourth straight year.

The data, released Thursday, shows an estimated 22,068 people moved out of the city between 2017 and 2018. While the two top cities, New York and Los Angeles, also lost residents, their numbers of exiting residents are dwarfed by Chicago’s. The Windy City lost .23 percent of its population in the one-year period, while New York lost .10 percent.

In spite of the massive resident downsizing, Chicago remains at number three with a population of 2.7 million. The fourth most populated city is Houston with 2.3 million, according to Census Bureau figures.
