Sri Lankan Government Received Warnings About Possible Attacks

The Sri Lankan government is blaming the deadly Easter Sunday bomb attacks on a local militant group, and says the country had received ‘several warnings’ about the attacks from foreign intelligence agencies.

Officials say the coordinated attacks were carried out by National Thowfeek Jamaath, or NTJ, a local group believed to be tied to an international network.

Sri Lanka’s minister of telecommunications, Harin Fernando, says the government ignored warnings by foreign intelligence agencies about possible impending attacks due to ‘massive miscommunication’.

At least 290 deaths and hundreds of injuries have been reported so far, including at least 4 U.S. citizens.
