Sometimes being edgy in your brand’s social media can backfire. Just ask Chase after one of their tweets wasn’t as well received as they had hoped.

The banking giant posted a meme-like joke about why people have low balances in their accounts, listing reasons like spending too much money on coffee, taxis, and dining out.

Twitter users went on the attack, blasting the bank until the message was pulled down about 30 minutes later.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren was one of those who joined in the chorus, using the same format in her reply to “Why aren’t customers saving money?”
