Guatemalan officials say a 2 and 1/2-year-old undocumented migrant has died while in U.S. Border Patrol custody. The child crossed the border into El Paso with his parents on April 3rd.
The child’s mother told border agents that her child was ill on April 6th. He was taken to an El Paso hospital that day and diagnosed with pneumonia. The boy died later in the month.
The child is the fourth child to die while in custody of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. U.S. officials say the boy and his family were never even in custody despite agents “releasing” the family on April 8th. U.S. Border Patrol has admitted that they are overwhelmed by the amount of immigrants entering the country.
