Houses passes moot LGBT protections

The House has civil rights legislation extending protections against gender and orientation discrimination.

The 236-173 vote amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit both private and public sector discrimination.

The bill also makes clear that access to locker and dressing rooms can’t be denied on the same grounds.

For now, the protections are still moot as the amendment appears unlikely to pass the Senate.
