As expected, the legal challenges to Alabama’s new abortion ban have begun.

The ACLU and Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit on Friday to block the law from taking effect, calling it unconstitutional.

The bill bans abortion in virtually all cases, including rape and incest, except a serious health threat to the mother. The law as it stands is unenforceable and was designed to challenge the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision.
