An Arizona man has admitted to concealing his dead mother’s body so he could continue to collect her Social Security checks.

After police investigated the whereabouts of 97-year-old Leonie Shannon, her son Daniel admitted that she had died in December. Shannon then buried her body in the backyard so he could continue to collect her Social Security and Veterans Administration checks.

Shannon told police he was an inventor and needed the money for a patent. He was arrested on charges of fraud and improper disposal of a body. Investigators are now working to determine the cause of death.
