Lone GOP lawmaker derails disaster aid bill

A lone ranger (pardon the pun) roped in the House’s attempt to pass a $19 billion disaster aid bill before the Memorial Day respite.

“If I do not object, Congress will have passed a bill with $19 billion without being here to vote on it,” said Texas GOP Rep. Chip Roy on the House floor.

Lawmakers tried to use a legislative maneuver to pass the measure with many of their colleagues already gone for the extended weekend.

Roy complained the bill wasn’t paid for while also taking issue with the absence of the President’s requested $4.5 billion for the ongoing migrant crisis on the US-Mexico border.
