Missouri Governor Signs Off On Abortion Bill

Missouri Governor Michael Parson has officially signed off on the state’s restrictive new abortion laws, which bans abortions after eight weeks in virtually all cases.

The bill includes an exception for medical emergencies, but not for rape or incest. Doctors who perform abortions illegally could face up to 15 years behind bars.

Gov. Parson said the bill sens “a strong signal” that “In Missouri, we stand for life, protect women’s health, and advocate for the unborn”.

However, the law will only take effect if Roe v. Wade is overturned. A number of states have passed similar bills in recent months, aimed at challenging Roe v. Wade in the Supreme Court.
