(SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) — With the end of the legislative session looming, lawmakers are working on a number of items including gambling expansion. Proponents say the odds are good that they’ll get a bill passed this week.

There’s talk of a big gaming bill every legislative session, but longtime advocate State Sen. Terry Link (D-Waukegan) says everything seems to be falling in place this time around.

“It’s not like this is an all new concept, Link said. “We’re working off of bills that we’ve done in the past. We’re tweaking them, we’re changing them around a lot. And we’re working bipartisan. We’re working with the House and Senate Republicans on this plus the governor’s office so everybody is in tune. I think you’ll see it very quickly.”

The package taking shape includes new casinos, including one in Chicago as well as sports betting. the legislative session ends Friday.
